PROBLEM
A container ship docked at Port Melbourne was out of service for four weeks due to a rudder shaft journal bearing failure and severe shaft wear.
To minimize financial loss to the owner, urgent repairs and installation of a new bearing were needed to enable its departure.

APPLICATION
The Rezitech team undertook all repair works. First, the shaft journal surface was prepared, followed by the application of Belzona 1111 to both the bearing and the bearing journal. Thereafter, the bearing housing was clamped into position and removed the next day in order to inspect the surface contact. By using Bearing Blue as an indicator, we confirmed 100% surface contact between the bearing and the shaft journal.

OUTCOME
The customer was highly satisfied with the quality of the repairs. In addition, the swift completion of the repairs led to significant cost savings for the shipowner by allowing the vessel to resume its journey without further delays.

Belzona 1111 (Super Metal)
A 2-part repair composite for metal repair and resurfacing based on solvent-free epoxy resin reinforced with silicon steel alloy. This repair material will not corrode and resists a wide range of chemicals. It is easy to mix and apply without the need of specialist tools and can be machined using conventional tools.
