BELZONA PROTECTS CONCRETE FROM CHEMICAL ATTACK

Chemical Attack in the Mining Industry
Chemical attack due to exposure to harsh substances such as acids, alkalis, and corrosive minerals on mining equipment and structures is a significant concern to mine operators.
Machinery, pipelines, and structural components often come into contact with acidic mine drainage, leaching solutions, and chemical reagents used in extraction processes. This exposure leads to corrosion, material degradation, and reduced operational efficiency, increasing maintenance costs and the risk of equipment failure.
Implementing protective coatings, selecting corrosion-resistant materials, and employing proper maintenance strategies are essential to mitigate the impact of chemical attack and ensure the longevity of mining infrastructure.
Applications
Belzona provides protective coatings and repair composites that help prevent chemical attack on various types of infrastructure and equipment in the mining industry. Some key assets that can be protected include:
- Pipelines & Ducting
- Storage Tanks & Containment Areas
- Pumps & Valves
- Structural Steel & Supports
- Chutes & Hoppers
- Heat Exchangers & Condensers
- Flotation Cells & Agitators
- Crusher & Mill Components
- Concrete Infrastructure
- Cooling Towers & Water Treatment Equipment
Protect mining equipment and structures from chemical attack.

Belzona products provide excellent resistance against chemical attack, providing a durable barrier against a wide range of aggressive chemicals.
Equipment in ore processing plants are under continuous contact with chemically aggressive materials. Belzona epoxy repair composites and coatings can rapidly repair and protect heavy duty machinery, providing chemical resistance against a broad range of substances and the ability to resist all concentrations of caustic solutions, 98% sulfuric acid and other acids.
Belzona products provide protection for surfaces damaged by chemical spillage or immersion as well as high adhesion to various substrates that include concrete, metals and tiles without specialist tools. The adhesion of Belzona magma polymers to concrete is stronger than the cohesive strength of concrete. Magma polymers can solidify within a few hours and achieve full chemical resistance properties in up to three days. Magma polymer coatings were first used in the 1980s. These coatings are easily and seamlessly applied at a thickness of approximately 500 microns (20 mils), protecting and eliminating the risk of corrosion in the underlying substrate.
