Case Study: Corroded Ejector Oil Surge Drum – Belzona UK
A recent project carried out by Belzona UK Ltdinvolved the internal lining of a heavily corroded ejector oil surge drum. Measuring 4 meters (13.1 feet) in length and 900mm (35.4 inches) in diameter, the vessel was transported to Belzona UK’s workshop in Hawarden, where it underwent meticulous surface preparation. The vessel was grit-blasted to a minimum standard of SA 2½ cleanliness, achieving a surface profile exceeding 75µm.

To reinforce small straight bore nozzles, Belzona nozzle inserts were installed before the application of two coats of Belzona 1593. To ensure coating integrity, the lining underwent spark testing at 3kV in accordance with NACE SP0188 standards, confirming complete coating continuity.

In September 2024, Prime Industrial, Belzona Authorised Partner in Greece, was tasked with protecting Desalter Vessels from corrosion in extreme temperature conditions. These vessels, essential for removing water and salts from crude oil, operate under continuous immersion temperatures of up to 160°C (320°F), making them particularly susceptible to corrosion and degradation.
Belzona 1593was chosen for its ability to withstand harsh process conditions while maintaining excellent adhesion and long-term performance. The application involved:
- Thorough surface preparation to SA 2½ standards
