PROBLEM
An Oil and Gas facility required a solution to seal the base of a large fuel storage tank after the existing seal had failed, leaving it unprotected against water ingress corrosion.

APPLICATION
The Belzona 3111 Sealatank system was selected as the ideal solution for its exceptional ability to prevent water ingress, resist UV exposure and withstand climatic variations. The system also has excellent adhesion to various substrates, including asphalt, concrete and metal.
First, the tank base was abrasively blasted to remove contaminants and ensure a clean surface for optimal adhesion. The repair area was then primed using Belzona 3921 Conditioner followed by the application of Belzona 9431 Bridging Tape across the tank base joint.
To enhance bonding between the substrate and the sealing system, Belzona 3911 Bitumen Conditioner was applied. Next, a layer of Belzona 3111 Flexible Membrane was applied to create the initial waterproofing barrier.
Belzona 9311 Reinforcement Sheet was then embedded into the first layer to strengthen the system. A second coat of Belzona 3111 was applied and left to cure, to fully encapsulate the reinforcement, ensuring a seamless, flexible barrier that allows trapped moisture to escape through its microporous structure.

OUTCOME
The application was successfully completed by local contractors ensuring the tank base now has a durable, long-lasting seal, effectively preventing water ingress and significantly reducing the risk of corrosion.
