PROBLEM
A water industry client required the refurbishment of a split case pump after severe wear and corrosion significantly degraded the casing and the impeller. A long-term protective coating was also required to restore the pump’s performance and reliability.

APPLICATION
All components requiring restoration and protection were grit blasted to achieve the specified surface cleanliness and profile.
Thereafter, worn areas on casings and the impeller were rebuilt using Belzona 1111 (Super Metal). Two coats of Belzona 1341 (Supermetalglide) were then applied to the casing and impeller to provide long-term protection.
Belzona 1341 utilises hydrophobic technology to repel process fluids and reduce turbulence, helping to improve hydraulic efficiency, reduce energy consumption, and provide excellent chemical resistance.

OUTCOME
The split case pump was successfully refurbished, internally coated for long-term protection, and reassembled at Rezitech’s Hallam workshop within a rapid turnaround time, enabling it to be returned to service without the cost and downtime associated with full pump replacement.

Belzona 1111 (Super Metal)
A 2-part repair composite for metal repair and resurfacing based on solvent-free epoxy resin reinforced with silicon steel alloy. This repair material will not corrode and resists a wide range of chemicals. It is easy to mix and apply without the need of specialist tools and can be machined using conventional tools.
Belzona 1341 (Supermetalglide)
A 2-part epoxy coating designed to improve efficiency of pumps, pipes, valves and other fluid handling equipment while protecting them from the effects of erosion and corrosion. This high performance product is proven to reduce energy consumption, provide excellent chemical resistance and lower maintenance costs.
