PROBLEM
A 220mm diameter hydrocarbon process pipe developed a critical Class 3 (thin wall) defect over a length of 280mm. Operating at 95°C and 10 bar pressure, the pipework required urgent repair to prevent failure and maintain continuous service.

APPLICATION
The application was completed in accordance with Belzona Know-How System Leaflet VPF-11. The defect area was first abrasive blasted to SA 2.5, achieving a 75 microns profile. Belzona SuperWrap II was then applied as a 6 wrap system in accordance with the engineered design, using Belzona 1983 resin to provide a further 12 years service life.
Belzona SuperWrap II was chosen because it is an engineered solution that can be designed as a pipe repair system being compliant to ISO 24817 and ASME PCC-2.

OUTCOME
With the customer being able to do their own designs and by having validated applicators on site, the onsite maintenance team was able to operate independently, allowing the repair to be completed within 48 hours.
