COOLING WATER LINE REPAIR 

The through-wall defect was caused by internal corrosion after the pipe’s concrete lining failed. Because the line was in seawater cooling service, the exposed pipe substrate was vulnerable to aggressive saltwater corrosion, eventually leading to a large loss of wall thickness and leakage risk.

Belzona SuperWrap II was selected because it provided a lightweight, engineered composite repair solution capable of delivering high-strength reinforcement and corrosion resistance. It avoided the need for a heavy rolled steel plate and allowed the repair to be completed onsite without hot work.

A composite pad was first prefabricated onsite using Belzona 9381 reinforcement sheet and Belzona 1982 SuperWrap II resin to match the pipe geometry. The pad was then cold bonded around the full pipe circumference using Belzona 1161. After surface preparation, Belzona SuperWrap II Composite Wrap was applied as a four-wrap system in accordance with the engineered repair design.

Yes. In this case, Belzona SuperWrap II provided an alternative to a traditional heavy rolled steel plate repair. The composite system was lighter, easier to handle onsite, corrosion resistant in saltwater exposure conditions, and could be installed without hot work, making it suitable for rapid repair where welding was not preferred.

The engineered Belzona SuperWrap II repair restored integrity to the affected seawater cooling line and enabled it to be returned to service quickly. The repair was designed in-house by a qualified Belzona SuperWrap II designer and installed by trained, validated applicators, providing a rapid, reliable, and high-integrity onsite solution until full pipe replacement could be completed during the next planned outage.
