PROBLEM
A chemical storage tank developed a defective roof weld seam due to corrosion, necessitating immediate repair.

APPLICATION
A combination of Belzona 1212 and a Belzona SuperWrap II Composite Patch was selected to repair the defect and restore the tank’s structural integrity.
First, Belzona 1212 was used to repair a weep hole in order to seal an active leak in the weld seam. Next, thorough surface preparation was carried out using a bristle blaster to create the optimal surface profile in order to allow the Belzona 1212 and SuperWrap ll Composite Patch to be applied.

With the substrate properly prepared, Belzona 1212 was applied to build up the weld seam for a smooth transition for the SuperWrap ll Composite Patch. Thereafter, four layers of Belzona SuperWrap II was applied over an area of approximately 750 mm × 750 mm.
After application, the wrap was consolidated with a release film and allowed to cure.

OUTCOME
The storage tank roof weld seam was successfully repaired within a quick turnaround time and without the need for a costly roof replacement, allowing the tank to return to service with minimal disruption.
