PROBLEM
A ferry operator experienced a problem with severe corrosion in a ferry’s engine room which required immediate repairs and the application of a preventative coating to provide corrosion protection.
APPLICATION
Following the repair work and surface preparation, Belzona 5811 was applied to provide long-term corrosion prevention. Belzona 5811 was chosen for its exceptional protective properties, particularly in environments involving immersion in aqueous solutions, including seawater, where it effectively guards against corrosion.
Belzona 5811 also offers easy application with a brush and excellent adhesion to various materials, including the aluminium used for this vessel’s construction. Furthermore, being solvent-free, it significantly minimised health and safety risks during application in the confined space of the boat’s engine room.
OUTCOME
The customer was very pleased with the result and has since entrusted Rezitech to undertake corrosion and erosion protection work in other areas.

Surface preparation carried out using a handheld power tool. Abrasive blasting was not viable.

Belzona 5811 (Immersion Grade)
A 2-part epoxy coating which provides outstanding chemical resistance and protects equipment operating under immersion in aqueous solutions up to 50°C (122°F) from the effects of corrosion. This solvent-free material can be easily applied by brush or spray to virtually any metallic and non-metallic surface, simplifying maintenance works.
